Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) are inflammatory mediators that often co-exist both in vivo and in vitro. IL-1β is a major pro-inflammatory cytokine that can induce the expression of both cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and microsomal PGE synthase-1 (mPGES-1), the key enzymes for PGE2 formation.  PGE2-IL-1β Luminex assay allows users to measure PGE2 and IL-1β simultaneously for the first time. The unique feature of this assay is the combination of a sandwich-type assay for IL-1β and a competitive assay for PGE2. The assay requires a four hour incubation with no wash steps and can be completed in about six hours.
