Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) is a 17 kDa polypeptide produced primarily by activated monocytes and macrophages. This polypeptide mediates many immune and inflammatory responses, including activation and differentiation of monocytes and macrophages, expression of MHC class I and II, and expression of adhesion molecules on endothelial cells. TNF-α is considered to be the primary mediator in many inflammatory conditions including toxic shock and sepsis.This assay allows sensitive, specific analysis of TNF-α in serum or plasma.
