Preparation of L-fructose by L-arabinose by Sowden-Fischer reaction
L-arabinose can be obtained from the hydrolysis of plant lignin fibers. Some L-arabinose can have L-arabinose content of more than 10%. Another hydrolysis from the sugar beet pulp, evaporation and filtration can also crystallize a small amount of L-Arabic. sugar. Using L-arabinose as a raw material, it can be converted into a good quality L-fructose product by Sowden-Fischer or Kiliani-Fischer reaction.
Arena et al. used the Sowden-Fischer reaction process to convert L-arabinose to a mixture of L-glucose and L-mannose (4:6) at a temperature of 30-40 ° C and a 40% alkaline solution. It is isomerized to L-fructose for 48 hours, and then the pure L-fructose final product is extracted by membrane separation or chromatographic separation.
