What is Sulfacetamide(pure Sulfacetamide powder)？

Sulfacetamide is a white to a pale yellow crystalline powder of chemicals. At room temperature, it appears as a white powder. The chemical name is N-(4-aminobenzenesulfonyl)acetamide, the molecular formula is C8H10N2SO3, and the molecular weight is 214.24200. Sulfaacetin is an anti-infective drug. It is mainly used for ocular infections such as bacterial superficial conjunctivitis, keratitis, mumps and orbital inflammation. It is used for trachoma and fungal keratitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. Adjuvant therapy, ocular trauma, chronic dacryocystitis, conjunctival and corneal surgery to prevent infection before and after. A sulfa drug is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic agent used to treat infections.

Sodium sulfacetamide was acidified, sodium sulfaacetate was dissolved in water, and adjusted to pH 3.8-4 with 5% hydrochloric acid to precipitate sulfacetamide. Filtered, washed, and dried to obtain the finished product.

The oral absorption of sulfacetamide is found to be 100%  and the plasma protein binding is 80–85%.

The drug is structurally similar to p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), which competes with it, inhibits dihydrofolate synthetase, prevents bacterial synthesis of folic acid, and causes bacteria to die from the supply of folic acid.

Sulfaacetic acid is a local short-acting sulfa drug that inhibits Staphylococcus, Hemolytic Streptococcus, Meningococcus, Escherichia coli, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Chlamydia trachomatis.

It is sensitive to Chlamydia trachomatis and also has inhibitory activity against fungi.
